Kiri, our Senior Therapist, gives her thoughts on two Germaine de Capuccini products that will help you maintain glowing dewy skin this winter.

Time is limited. We’re all looking for the easiest and quickest ways to maintain healthy skin, particularly in the colder months when it needs a little TLC. We asked Kiri, who provides Germaine de Capuccini beauty treatments here at our salon in Lichfield which products she recommends.

“There’s two products I not only use myself but would also recommend to anyone who is looking for a starting point for rehydration this winter” says Kiri.

“The first is Germaine de Capuccini’s Timexpert Hydraluronic Hydra-Nourishing Mask. The second is from the same Timexpert range, the Hydraluronic 3d Force Serum. They’re both used here in our beauty salon as part of the beauty treatments we offer but are also available to purchase for at-home use. They are both great hydration boosters but are used in different ways.

I love the mask as it’s so easy to use. I use it a couple of times a week at night time. Cleanse the skin, exfoliate and pop on the face mask. I use quite a thick layer and leave it on for about 15 minutes. It’s a nice creamy texture and extremely hydrating.

The serum is beautiful. It plumps out the skin and gives you deep long-lasting hydration. I notice the difference as soon as I’ve used it. It improves the volume and firmness of the skin. Pop it on before your day cream.

As the leaves turn and the air becomes crisp, our skin can start to feel dull, dry, and just… tired. It’s time to close the curtains, cosy up and spend some time refreshing your skin with a healthy facial scrub routine.

Contrary to opinion that scrubs are harsh or abrasive, they can actually be your best friend as your skin has to adjust from hotter weather to cold winds and the drying effects of central heating.

Why do I need to use a facial scrub?

During summer, our skin builds up dead cells, sun exposure can leave it rough, and even the mild UK summer sun can make the skin feel dehydrated.

A good facial scrub can help by gently removing that layer of dead skin, revealing a fresh, soft surface underneath. But the best part is your moisturiser and serum will work even harder for you after using a facial scrub. With the top layer of dead skin cells removed they’ll penetrate deeper and give you’re the much-needed hydration and nourishment it needs through the winter months.

Do I need to use serum after a facial scrub?

Serums are another essential go-to during the winter months. They’re packed with ingredients like vitamins and antioxidants and are super absorbant so they quickly penetrate the skin and provide an extra barrier against the weather. Use them after your scrub but before your moisturiser.

Here, our three Therapists give their top tips for when to and how to use facial scrubs.

Our Senior Therapists all recommend using a scrub twice a week, particularly during the winter to keep your skin healthy and nourished. “I always use a scrub at night time” says Kiri. “Apply a beautiful night cream or face mask after use too as your skin is in the perfect condition to absorb all the goodness. Exfoliation gets rid of the dead skin cells and dirt and makes the skin feel amazing. You’ll notice the difference straight away – it helps you look more radiant and hydrated.” If you have sensitive skin, Laura-Jane recommends using Germaine de Capuccini’s Excel Therapy O2 I 365 Soft Scrub and if you have more mature skin Dee says it’s perfect too “It contains Shea Butter, so it’s soothing, softening and excellent for drier mature skin to give radiance and rejuvenation” says Dee.

Top tips for using facial scrubs

1.Be gentle with yourself
Scrubbing too often can irritate your skin. Use just once or twice a week depending on your skin type and think of it as a reset, not a daily ritual.

2. Focus on dry areas
The cheeks, nose, and forehead often accumulate the most dead skin cells. Spend a little extra attention here, but avoid over-scrubbing sensitive areas like around the eyes.

3. Follow with a hydrating serum
After exfoliating, your skin is fresh and ready to absorb, so whatever you apply next will be retained at the deepest level. Serum is a great product to use at this stage as it’s packed with vitamins and nutrients and will ensure your skin drinks in all the goodness It needs.

4. Pair with SPF
Even in autumn, UV rays are still around. Exfoliated skin can be more sensitive, so always apply a moisturiser with SPF even if it’s cloudy.

“It’s been a busy year” says Laura-Jane. “It’s been great to catch up with familiar guests and also welcome new faces too. We’ve added new services to the spa menu and that’s always nice to offer something different. I love offering my reflexology services to guests. It’s a specialist skill that I can bring to the team and it’s amazing how much positivity it can bring to the individual, whether it’s easing their pain, helping to improve circulation or simply to reduce stress. Every guest’s response is unique, and that’s what makes it so special.

Favourite beauty treatments

Two of the my favourite treatments that I’ve provided this year have to be HD Brows and LVL Lashes. I love seeing the instant results and the confidence it gives my guest…their smile when they see them! In fact that goes across all services. I guess that’s why I love my job. Knowing that I’ve made people feel good about themselves is priceless. What is your own beauty routine?

When it comes to her own beauty routine, Laura-Jane keeps it simple but consistent: cleansing twice daily, exfoliating twice a week, and keeping her skin hydrated with moisturisers, serums and masks. “Consistency is the key” says Luara-Jane. I have a regular nighttime and daytime routine and am a firm believer in exfoliation, serum and moisturiser. Other things can come and go but they are the key to good healthy skin. I also definitely recommend a facial every 6-8 weeks. No matter how great your skincare routine none of us spend an hour on our skincare and what’s more, a facial is so much more than the products and techniques we use. So many of my guests comment on how just having that hour to themselves, to be pampered and looked after is good for them. It boost your spirits, relaxes you, gives you time to focus and just be. It’s so good for your mental health as well as for your skin.

Any other recommendations for the winter?

Nails! I’m so excited about this year’s nail colours. They’re gorgeous. They’re dark, moody and rich and I love them. My favourites have to be Lincoln Park After Dark, You Don’t Know Jacques!, Vampsterdam and Black Cherry Chutney. They perfectly complement this year’s maroon and berry fashion trends.”

About the Stan Bowley Trust

The Stan Bowley Trust was set up to raise awareness and funds for CyberKnife—a pioneering robotic radiotherapy treatment for cancer patients.

A former Staffordshire police officer, Alan ‘Stan’ Bowley was approaching his five-year all-clear milestone after battling cancer when he received the devasting news that he had a secondary tumour. He and his wife, Janet, conducted extensive research to find a way forward and discovered that the ground-breaking treatment, CyberKnife, was available in various locations worldwide, predominantly in the United States. With much support from family and friends they raised £40,000 to fund Stan’s treatment in the States which granted Stan precious time with his family. Tragically, Stan was later diagnosed with a third tumour in his liver, from which he eventually passed away. However, his family has always emphasised that this was unrelated to the CyberKnife treatment, which had been hugely successful in eliminating the nerve sheath tumour. It gave Stan invaluable extra time and the opportunity to create cherished memories with his family.

Before his passing, Alan “Stan” Bowley, together with his family and friends, established the Stan Bowley Trust to raise awareness and funds for CyberKnife technology. This groundbreaking radiotherapy treatment delivers high doses of radiation with sub-millimetre precision, enabling the targeting of previously untreatable tumours. The trust has played a crucial role in expanding access to CyberKnife treatment in the UK, particularly at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, where over 3,000 patients have received life-changing care.

What does the Trust do?

Today, the trust continues to organise fundraising initiatives and events, striving to support CyberKnife technology while providing vital information to patients and their families. Its mission remains steadfast: to raise awareness of this innovative treatment and ensure more individuals have access to life-changing cancer care.

Tip No. 1: Exfoliation – the basis for all good summer skincare

After months wrapped up during the winter, skin needs a little bit of TLC to look fresh and radiant and exfoliation is where it starts.

One last tip that’s easy to forget is to stay hydrated! We all know we should drink more water but if you can, also boost your hydration with water-rich fruit and vegetables. Hydrating from the inside and adopting a good skin care routine on the outside is your best way of keeping your skin plump, clear and hydrated.
