What exactly is hair damage?
So, what actually happens to the hair when it gets damaged? Kerastase have discovered that the problem lies at a microscopic level. Each hair strand is made up of a cuticle which surrounds the hair strand and protects the inner cortex (where protein cells are held together with bonds). When hair gets damaged, the cuticle is damaged and beomes more and more porous until it eventually wears away, exposing the inner cortex.
When hair is healthy, the cuticle is smooth and reflects light, making the hair shine. However, when the cuticle suffers damage, the surface becomes rough which means the light will reflect at different angles, causing it to appear less shiny.
When hair becomes porose and damaged it absorbs 3x more calcium from water than healthy hair. And with every contact with water, calcium accumulates and creates a calcium over-dose. So the result is hair which appears dull and rough and is prone to breakage.
So how can Kerastase Premiere help?
The secret is acid! After 10 years of scientific research, Kerastase have found a solution which will break this cycle of persistent damage.
Kerastase Premiere is made up of 8% pure acids:
3% Citric Acid – Decalcifies.
This organic acid works from surface to core to eliminate calcium overdose which neutralises the dullness & stiffness.
5% Glycine – Repairs
Once the calcium is removed, Glycine, an amino acid penetrates the inner layer of hair to reconnect the broken links which helps prevent hair breaking.
Together these two super powerful acids provide a dual-action solution to transform dry, brittle, damaged hair and nurture it back to optimum health. In fact, the reason why Kerastase have named this product Premiere is because it will literally take your hair back to it’s original (premier) state.

What is a Kerastase Premiere Treatment
This is our in-salon treatment which consists of 4 different applications which are ‘layered’ to provide optimum results.
Stage 1: Remove calcium
The first stage will remove calcium from the core of the hair. We use two intensive decalcifying products – a repairing concentrate and a repairing shampoo.
Used together these two products work to strip the calcium from your hair and prepare it for repair.
Stage 2: Repair
The second stage repairs the surface of the hair. We apply a further two products at this stage – a decalcifying resurfacing concentrate and an anti-breakage repairing mask.
One of the best parts about this amazing treatment is the smell. Kerastase have created a beautiful aroma which takes you straight to a summer in Italy with a beautiful cocktail of citrus & mandarin with hints of orange flower and jasmine.
